The Watch Scholar offers an authentication service as part of any valuation - an important and often overlooked step, as a fake watch has no value!

We provide authentication reports on anything from a single watch to a large collection, and work with both the Police and Trading Standards providing expert services to determine authenticity, lost value and support prosecutions.

Pawnbroker Services

Since 2011, Adrian Hailwood, MD of The Watch Scholar, has
provided valuation and authentication support to Pawnbrokers nationally.

This involves direct contact with stores across the UK, scrutinising images and information provided by staff members. Responses from Adrian are usually relayed to stores within minutes, and often ‘live’, allowing a timely response to the Client.

Adrian offers an expert pair of eyes to assist stores - not
only are counterfeit movements and aftermarket additions
identified, but less obvious problems are noted,
meaning that a watch may require a service before resale or
may be uneconomical to price due to damage.

Adrian knows that finding a price at which a watch can be sold, should a pledge not be redeemed, is crucial for a Pawnbroker. Adrian assists the Pawnbroker in managing Client expectations for immediate pricing and future projections, ensuring loans and purchases are made at the correct level, allowing for disposal if necessary.

The Watch Scholar courses are regularly attended by Pawnbroker staff, building a deeper understanding of watches, their value and authenticity.

Our courses boost staff confidence in making autonomous decisions and facilitate a more precise exchange of information during the authentication and valuation support communications.
